Without it, you're just yakking away with no connection to the person you're talking to.
 
You might wonder, "Why is it always me who has to pay such close attention?”
 
The reason is that you possess the power to pivot—to change the course of a conversation in real time. You must remain fully present with the other person rather than getting lost in your narrative.
