What Makes You Different?

Uplifting Moments

I was so angry yesterday.

Yes me.

Angry. Annoyed. Frustrated.

I vented to my husband who gratefully takes my side most of the time. He concurred that I had every right to be irritated.

And then the next morning came to pass in the natural course of time, but before I communicated my displeasure to the antagonist, I did what makes me different. I can’t help it. It’s how I’m wired up, or as Jessica says in the film noir Who Framed Roger Rabbit, “I’m not bad, I’m just drawn that way.”

Well, actually I’m good, and over the years I’ve redrawn some of my lines.

What makes me different is my ability to step into someone else’s shoes and feel the pinch.

When I looked at the source of my anger, I realized that the subject of my displeasure was just as frustrated as I was, has very similar daily pressures to perform, and, if I had to guess, I would predict that he wonders why I just don’t make his life easier by doing what he wants!

Then I laughed out loud at how easy it is to give power to what’s not working rather than engage with the creativity you need to think outside your box of reactions and answers.

So I re-read the emails, thought about what was possible that would resolve the issues, and frustration flew out the window looking for another place to land.

Then it was as simple as breathing in and breathing out. I stepped into his shoes.

I can breathe again. I have the space to create again. I have room to move and stretch my thinking to include his thinking. That’s what makes me different.

What makes you different?

The practice this week is to engage with the difference that makes you great, the difference that makes you who you are. That ability is your gift to give.

Let’s focus on our abilities this week that change the dynamic of our thoughts, words, and actions. Let me hear from you how you use your abilities this week.

My love goes with you as you work with this Uplifting Moment.
