THE INTERSECTION OF DEADLINES AND DISCIPLINE

Uplifitng MomentsWithout a deadline nothing gets done!

Well, some things get done. I brush my teeth and I go for a run. That’s about it because I don’t want to lose my teeth and I was born to run!

Love and fear move us into action.

But without deadlines:

  • I wouldn’t train for half-marathons

  • I wouldn’t accomplish goals

  • I wouldn’t work with others to get things done

Without deadlines everything remains a good idea. Even when you break it down into doable chunks, without deadlines you’re left asking the question, where do we go from here?

Have you ever had a meeting to solve a problem and you all came up with possible solutions, and you’re thinking something will happen, but nothing happens except spending time in a meeting that doesn’t resolve the issue?

You may be left with a warm and fuzzy feeling as if something got done, and it’s only later that you realize that no one said, who’s going to do what by when! And if you’re the one with the problem, you’re left with the same old thought, “I’ve got to do something about this.” The problem doesn’t go away, it just becomes imbedded in the relationship, business, or your personal way of being.

In other words, nothing changes. Consider this:

Deadlines bring discipline. Discipline brings success.

At the intersection of Deadlines and Discipline, you’ll notice a yield sign.

Yield to your:

  • Power

  • Awareness

  • Liberator

When you yield to your PAL, you will have:

  • The power to declare a deadline; knowing that a commitment to get something done lives in time.

  • The awareness of why you’re doing it; giving you the vision that organizes your action and pulls your discipline forward to finish what you start.

  • An inner liberator who notices and extinguishes any grumbling, complaining, limiting reasons whether yours or others, and sharpens your resolve, deals with breakdowns, and improves strategies to win the game. Your liberator keeps you fully engaged to the finish.

So here’s the practice:

  1. Notice where your discipline has lagged behind what you say you want. Is there a deadline missing?

  2. Set a deadline and determine what you’ll have accomplished by that date.

  3. Choose a plan that has liberation as a central theme. What will liberate you from a habit of thinking and acting that no longer works for fulfilling your goals and being fulfilled day to day.

Let me hear from you how this practice liberates your thoughts and actions.

My love goes with you as you work with this Uplifting Moment.
