FOLLOW YOUR BLISS

Uplifting MomentsMy friend Charmain sent me the picture that accompanies this Uplifting Moment. I was mesmerized by the radiance of blissfulness I experienced in looking at the expression shining out of the eyes of her son, Lucas.

If someone took your picture doing what you love to do, would they capture your bliss?

It’s been a year since I started writing these Uplifting Moments, and on this anniversary I realized that the year would have gone by whether I wrote or not! Maybe you’ve had those reflective moments as well, when you stand back and ask yourself how you’ve spent your time. And perhaps you notice that time has gone by and you didn’t get to what matters most.

The way you get things done is to start and continue until it’s finished or becomes part of who you are. It’s the “just do it” decisions that allow you to make room for what matters most. And then you notice that time has gone by, but has been used in a way that makes you smile.

Life has a way of continuing to move forward along the path you’ve set … a path that can bring the experience of blissful moments with it, if you are moving forward, in some way, with the direction you want to go.

It is blissful to write these moments of insight to enlighten my own practice and to share them with you. Writing reveals my thoughts more than any other mechanism I’ve found so far. It’s a process that allows looking into ideas to see how they hold up in the searchlight of questioning.

When you love what you do, what you do transcends the work, even though it may take work to do it! Blissful work or leisure is making time for something that on reflection is time well spent.

So how do you follow your bliss?

  • Work like you’re making a contribution.
  • Love like no one has hurt you.
  • Play like no one is watching.
  • Sing along with the music every chance you get.
  • Live as if this was already paradise.

Dr. Lee Baumel who regularly sends me different perspectives on love and life inspired these reflections.

Here’s to another year of Uplifting Moments, and something new this fall called “Coaching Moments”.

My love goes with you on this blissful day.

Oh how timely this uplifting moment is today, Paulette!

I'm currently packing my car with my iMac, espresso machine & Magical Creation Box ... I'm on my way to Vancouver Island for what I'm calling my Writing Retreat.

My aim?

I have a book proposal that I've been wanting to complete for the past year. Where the heck has that year gone? And why the heck isn't this proposal submitted yet?

What I've learned is this: The universe (as experienced through people & situations . . . that is, as relational) cannot support me until I take a stand for myself.

So, how did I do this?

I've been wanting to create a writing retreat in Tuscany and I'm getting closer . . . I can feel it's on its way to me . . . however, the moment I took a stand to have regular writing retreats (away from domestic responsibilities as I am a recovering care-giver) there appeared a family member who needed a housesitter in what is a neighbourhood I lived in for 10 years. I said Yes! and now I feel like I'm returning to a part of myself that is essential for the telling of my story. What a gift! And all I needed to do was get serious about my commitment and say it out loud. It has been a "just do it" decision.

It ain't Tuscany, but there is a cat named Bella living in that house and she's waiting for my arrival - I just know we're gonna get along beautifully!

Happy writing Paulette and congratulations on your anniversary . . . may your writerly voice continue to guide, grow & inspire you!

I've been conducting training sessions on being blissful in the midst of dealing with whatever shows up. The key I keep finding is to look more deeply at our role in keeping things just as they are. No blame, just clarity. And then discovery naturally occurs to close the gap between the way we think it should be and the way it is. It's so easy to see other people's resistance! If I want it to be different, I have to stop resisting the way it is so I can actually see more clearly what's happening. It's as if the magic key to unlocking the door to what's possible is simply owning my life, all of it, the bliss, the piss, and the rest. I heard from so many readers. Thank you for your comments and your discoveries. And Maggie, if you create a writing retreat in Tuscany, count me in!
